Wicked Information

Based on the book Wicked: Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, WICKED was declared "The Best Musical of the Decade" by Entertainment Weekly and "A Cultural Phenomenon" by Variety. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, the show is directed by Joe Mantello, has staging by Wayne Cilento, and is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone. It won three Tony Awards and has had performances in countries like London, Japan, Germany, Australia, and cities across the U.S.

Taking familiar themes from the classic film, Wizard of Oz, the musical shows the Wicked Witch's perspective beginning from her days at school to her infamous confrontation with Dorothy, and suggests that maybe her intentions were just misunderstood all along. The Wicked Witch, Elphaba, meets a host of familiar characters throughout her journey, including best friend and rival Glinda the Good Witch, the Wizard, and the Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scare Crow. Elphaba is just a young girl with large powers and good intentions for the greater good. Her green-tinted skin does not endear her to many and she struggles to find her place in the world while continuing to do good, even if her actions are misconstrued. Featured songs include, The Wizard and I, What Is This Feeling, Popular, Defying Gravity, and For Good.
