The Weeknd Information

The Weeknd is the stage name of Canadian R&B singer Abel Tesfaye. In 2011 he released, as a free download, a nine song album called House of Balloons which was received with critical acclaim across the musical board. The album was a mixture of nocturnal like beats, placing you in the underground nightlife scene and Tesfaye’s lyrics about over-indulgence, lust, and broken hearts that seem to go so well with each other. Songs such as “High for This” and “Loft Music” with his buttery smooth voice floating over the sparse arrangements are providing a new ground for the R&B genre.

Since then The Weeknd has released two additional albums, promoting that there were part of a trilogy and that all would be free for download on his website. The second in the series, Thursday, pickes up where House of Balloons leaves off, continuing the story of drugs, sex and confusion. The third in the series Echoes of Scilence was released in December of 2011, bringing the trilogy to a close with a nominee for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize. After performances at Coachella and other European festivals, The Weeknd is embarking on a fall tour covering select location in both the U.S. and Canada.
