Tenacious D Information

Tenacious D -Jack Black and Kyle Gass- is a rock band coming out of California. Known mainly for his film work, Jack Black has starred in many movie roles such as High Fidelity, Shallow Hal, King Kong, School of Rock, Nacho Libre, and Tropic Thunder. The band has appeared in many of these films, in song and in cameo roles. Gass’ got into music at eight years old playing the flute, saxophone, and then guitar. In 1985, the two met at the Actor'’s Gang at UCLA where they did not take a liking to each other. Eventually they settled their differences and formed to the rock-comedy group.

Tenacious D's first gig was in 1994 at Al's bar in downtown Los Angeles. One of the producers of HBO's Mr. Show was in the audience that night and liked their performance, which led to the creation of the show, Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth, on HBO. The show lasted six episodes before it went off the air, but Tenacious D had successfully gained a large fan base.

They released their self-titled debut album in 2001. The single “Tribute” comes off the album and is a top ten hit. Their second album, The Pick of Destiny, came out in 2006 and is the soundtrack for their movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. In addition to their movie work, they have also been on a number of TV spots like the American Music Awards, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Saturday Night Live, and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Tenacious D have made a number of live performances as well as world tours. In 2008, they were part of the Reading and Leeds Festivals, in 2010 they performed at BlizzCon in California, as well as at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In 2011, they opened for the Foo Fighters for the Australian and New Zealand leg of the Wasting Light tour.

They announced a summer 2012 tour, The Rise of the Fenix tour, which kicks off May 23 in Santa Barbara, CA and will travel across the U.S., Europe, and Canada.
